Updated: Apr 11, 2022

Dear Doc. Rock, What's the best way to lose love handles, without too much effort. Signed,

Lazy Ass with Love Handles.

Dear Lazy Ass,

First of all, congrats on being the first person to ask on the blog.

There are a ton of different ways to improve your fitness. There are a few ways you could go about handling your issue. Before anything else, your diet needs to be in check. We tend to store fat in our stomach's first because we are programmed to! We also tend to hold fat there in times of stress. Most people hold fat in their love handle area because their body is resistant to insulin.

Insulin is the hormone your body produces when it is exposed to sugars. Insulin is a very important hormone in your body responsible for many things including muscle building. The problem lies with carbohydrates. The Standard American Diet includes far too many carbs in ANYONE's opinion.

See, in the stone ages, our primitive ancestors lived on the majority of fatty meats and very little vegetation (plants and the sort). Our bodies are designed to run primarily on fats and proteins. Our stomachs, when newborns, produce enough acid to break down the protein and fats in our mother's milk, over time, we introduce soooo many carbs, that our bodies stop making the acid to properly process other important micronutrients and our body stops reacting to insulin the way it should, processing it as energy. When this happens, the carbs we consume get turned into fat.

I'm a very big advocate of low carbohydrate diets. The reason is because it helps an insulin resistant body become normal again because you are giving it a break from the carbs. Stick to protein sources like eggs, red meats, turkey, chicken, and tuna(in moderation).  Introduce more fats into your diet also. Italian cheeses like provolone are carb free!! Heavy cream, cottage cheese and sour cream are also carb free and so are almost all oils and butters! I know, America has taught us low fat this and low fat that, but that's not how we're meant to function! Tons of studies have proven it!

Once you have your diet in check, start up an exercise routine that incorporates circuit training (using weights in high repetitions, in quick succession from one body part to another). This helps get your heart rate up and your muscles toned!

If progress is slow at first, stay diligent, your body is going through a drastic change! We lose fat from the outside in; starting from the face, hands and feet and ending at our core. Also keep in mind men lose fat faster than women! Make sure you take a multivitamin everyday and also some HCL when you being ingesting more protein so your stomach can get some help!

Good luck with everything!

Rock
