Ask Doc Rock | Quit Playin' Games with My Heart

Updated: Apr 11, 2022

Alright Doc,

I've been with this guy for a few months now and things are kinda serious. We have a great time together, the sex is great, we share everything and tell each other "I love you" and all that good stuff.

But he doesn't want to date me officially.

I can't see how I'm doing anything wrong, and I really don't believe he's interested in anyone else. So why not put a title on it? Is it just a guy thing, or am I worked up over something that doesn't really matter all that much?

Sincerely,

Confused-XY

Dear Confused,

It's difficult sometimes to commit to one thing, especially another person. Unfortunately as guys, we are more prone to not wanting to limit ourselves, it's just part of who we are. HOWEVER, this doesn't make it ok.

He is acting as if you are a couple and it's wrong for him to make you feel the way you are right now. I believe that communication in a relationship is one of the most important and impactful things. You need to talk to him, and while I'm not a fan of ultimatums, you need to tell him you are serious about being with him and you're unsure of how he feels.  If he doesn't feel the same about you, then it's only fair to let you move on.

This will only work if YOU are really serious about moving on if it's not there. Nothing is more detrimental than saying something like that and then having no follow-through because then your words mean nothing.

I Wish You The Best and Much Happiness,

Rock
