Ask Doc Rock | You've Got a Friend in Me

Updated: Apr 11, 2022

Dear Doc Rock,

Is anyone a good friend these days? How do you know who to trust and who is always going to be there. How do you know that the friends you have now aren't talking behind your back and doing shady things. Is there even such thing as a best friend that would never do that? Sincerely,

Best Friendless

Dear Best Friendless,

What makes you feel the friends you have now don't respect you enough to be loyal? I'm guessing something happened with someone you trusted that made you question. The thing with that is that you can't let it prevent you from forming new friendships. Yes, some of us have best friends that we've had since our childhood, but as time goes on, people change and sometimes move in opposite directions from each other. While it may be hard to accept that, understand that it's an opportunity to expand your friend circle :)  A best friend should always stick up for you, be there for you when you need them, keep your secrets, and be considered as part of your family.

For me, personally, once someone betrays my trust, it's very unlikely that I can ever allow them to be as close to me as before. I feel if they betrayed me once, it means they didn't value our friendship or respect me in the first place, and I don't feel I owe them the opportunity at a second chance. Im very protective of my time and energy.

I hope you have the opportunities to meet new people and form new relationships as well as strengthen old ones :) Good Luck,

Rock
