Rock-Minded | "I Don't Need Coaching" - Think Again

Updated: Apr 11, 2022

I was talking to a fellow coach recently about something I had been struggling with.

I explained how I have had a lot of opportunities come to me recently and I felt selfish for telling one opportunity that I was for it but wasn't honest about  the fact I had others on the table and was still deciding where to go.

I felt horrible knowing that I was withholding information from someone who was offering me something and preventing them from offering it to another person.

So my coach noticed I said "Selfish" a lot and suggested that I look up the definition of selfish:

"1: Concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself :  seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others

2:  Arising from concern with one's own welfare or advantage in disregard of others."

What I discovered was that I wasn't actually being selfish because I actually cared that I was impacting someone else, acknowledging that it wasn't just about me.

The point is, that I wasn't making a correct distinction in the way I was feeling. I wasn't being selfish, I was being a human conscientious of my own survival AND the well-being of others.

This is why coaching is important and beneficial. We make ourselves out to be different people in our own heads, but we aren't! We just haven't aligned quite right with who we are and who we want the world to see us as.

I hope you take my story to reflect on something similar and I'm sure you will uncover a lot things you can be coached on!

Feel free to contact me.

Best,

Rock
